Tripod

A tripod is a three-legged stand, as for supporting a transit or camera. 

This is useful at lower shutter speeds to prevent the shake of your hands or the action of pressing the shutter from blurring the image, what we call camera shake for shot.


How to use a tripod stand

The tripod is placed in the location where it is needed. The surveyor will press down on the legs' platforms to securely anchor the legs in soil or to force the feet to a low position on uneven, pock-marked pavement. Leg lengths are adjusted to bring the tripod head to a convenient height and make it roughly level.

Once the tripod is positioned and secure, the instrument is placed on the head. The mounting screw is pushed up under the instrument to engage the instrument's base and screwed tight when the instrument is in the correct position. The flat surface of the tripod head is called the foot plate and is used to support the adjustable feet of the instrument.


Types of tripod stand

Mini/table top-tripod

A mini-tripod easily fits into a camera bag or purse. It can be placed on a table top or other level surface when needed. There are also heavy duty mini-tripods that have the features and flexibility of their full-sized counterparts.

Compact tripod

A compact tripod has the height and most of the features of full-sized tripods but is lightweight. A compact tripods folds so it can be placed in a suitcase. Some can not hold a camera more than a few pounds.

Full-sized tripod

Often the choice of professional and serious photographers where traveling light is not a concern, full-sized tripods can hold heavy cameras with long telephoto lenses. They have heavy duty construction and offer a variety of special features.
