WHAT IS R410 AIR CONDITIONER?
R-410A, sold under the trademarked names Suva 410A, Forane 410A, Puron, EcoFluor R410, Genetron R410A, and AZ-20, is a zeotropic, but near-azeotropic mixture of difluoromethane (CH2F2, called R-32) and pentafluoroethane (CHF2CF3, called R-125), which is used as a refrigerant in air conditioning applications.
R410A systems are much more cost-effective than their outdated counterparts and it is environmental friendly.
CHARACTERISTICS OF R410 SPLIT UNIT AIR CONDITIONER
- The pressure of the system after shut down reaches at equilibrium within three minute and increases gradually due to the heat exchange with environment before reaching to the pressure of steady state.
- The refrigerant in the evaporator exist in saturated state while the refrigerant in the condenser is at superheated state after shut-down.
- The performance degradation of the system is largely due to latent heat for two seconds after start-up since condensation water on the evaporator surface is released to environment.
- The cooling capacity of the system after start-up can be expressed within 3% accuracy as a quotation of two exponential functions of time with two time constant, the system reaches steady state in about 15 minutes.

TIPS WHEN HANDLING R410 AIR CONDITIONER
1. R-410A can only be used in equipment designed for R-410A. R-410A cannot be used to retrofit existing R-22 a/c equipment due to significantly higher operating pressures and much higher cooling capacity as outlined in the chart below.
2. To ensure safe handling of R-410A, remember that the head pressure is significantly higher. Also, special service equipment is required, including a high-pressure manifold gauge set, high-pressure recovering machine and a high-pressure recovery tank (4BW400).
When handling R-410A, standard fluorocarbon safety and handling practices should be followed. Use gloves, safety glasses and safety shoes when handling containers. Avoid skin and eye contact with liquid. Work in well-ventilated areas. Vapors are heavier than air and might concentrate near the floor or in low areas.
3. Storage requirements for R-410A containers are the same as other commonly used refrigerants. Cylinders should be stored in a clean, dry area, out of direct sunlight. Keep valves tightly closed and valve caps and hoods in place when cylinder is not in use.
4. Because of the higher pressure, more system components have been redesigned with increased wall thickness. When servicing this equipment, make sure you use reversing valves, expansion valves, filter-driers and other components specifically designed for R-410A.
5. R-410A is non-flammable at normal room temperatures, Do not mix R-410A with air for leak testing or other purposes. Instead use a mixture of R-410A and nitrogen for leak testing.
